Implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda: A Czech-Swedish Practical Workshop
Date: February 16, 2018
Venue: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic (Czernin Palace, Loretánské náměstí 5, Praha 1)
Working language: English
This year is going to mark the 18th anniversary of the acclaimed United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security (UNSCR 1325), which recognizes the need to include and empower women in peace processes and post-conflict development. Sweden has had years of experiences with furthering the Women, Peace and Security agenda, being one of the first countries to adopt a National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325 and currently applying a third one. The Czech Republic is also among the 72 countries committed to the implementation of UNSCR 1325 through a National Action Plan. Although action plans have become an important tool of this international policy framework, they have not guaranteed an effective implementation of the resolution in regard to transformative change on the ground. Indeed, the global progress in translating the Women, Peace and Security agenda into practice has been rather slow and challenging. The Czech-Swedish workshop on this topic brings together policy makers, civil society representatives and academics to exchange ideas and discuss experiences with implementation of UNSCR 1325. The event provides an opportunity for sharing of ideas and practical tips for applying the Women, Peace and Security agenda in various contexts and specific conflict situations, allowing participants to identify possible future directions in the related policy implementation and field work.
