Veronika Bílková Senior Researcher

Veronika Bílková is senior researcher at the Institute of International Relations Prague and a professor of international law at the Law Faculty of Charles University Prague. In her academic work, she focuses on international law, international humanitarian law, international criminal law, human rights law, the use of force in international relations, terrorism or international sanctions. She comments on the topics in the media. 

She is a member of the Center for International Law a the institute. 

She graduated from the Faculty of Law of Charles University (Mgr., JUDr., Ph.D.) and from the Faculty of Arts of Charles University (political science and French Mgr., PhDr.). She holds a Diploma of International Law from the University of Cambridge. In addition to her work the IIR, she also works as an associate professor at the Department of International Law, Faculty of Law, Charles University. She is a member of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (the so-called Venice Commission) of the Council of Europe and of the Managerial Board of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, on behalf of the Czech Republic. She is also the Secretary-General of the European Society of International Law (ESIL) and a member of its Board. She is the chair of the Working Group for the Rights of the Elderly at the Government Council for Human Rights and a member of the National Group for the Implementation of International Humanitarian Law. In 2022 she was a member of the two Moscow Mechanism's missions of experts dealing with the conflict in Ukraine.  

She is the author or co-author of twelve books and dozens of articles in Czech, English and French.
