The event "20 Years of Czechia in the EU: A Vision for an Enlarged Europe," marks an important occasion for reflecting on Czechia's two decades of membership in the European Union. The conference features two comprehensive panel discussions, bringing together key politicians and renowned experts in international relations.
The first panel, titled "Czechia in the EU: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow," will explore the country's integration into the European Union, the impact of the 2004 enlargement, and the future trajectory of Czechia within the EU. Distinguished speakers include Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Markéta Pekarová Adamová, President of the Senate Miloš Vystrčil, and Czech President Petr Pavel. A keynote address is also delivered by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Their speeches will reflect on the successes and challenges of Czechia's membership and highlight the importance of continued cooperation within the Union, particularly in addressing shared European challenges.
The second panel, "Enlarged Europe in 20 Years: Challenges and Opportunities," will focus on the future of EU enlargement, reflecting on the experiences of both current and future members. Speakers, including Monika Sie Dhian Ho from the Clingendael Institute, Daniela Schwarzer from the Bertelsmann Stiftung, and Milan Nič from the German Council on Foreign Relations, will examine the potential for further expansion of the EU, which may soon include over 30 member states. The panel discusses the complexities of maintaining democratic processes, policy sustainability, and the EU’s ability to ensure security and prosperity in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape.

Part 1: Czechia in the EU: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
The 2004 enlargement was a historic milestone not only for the newcomers but also for the EU. The first part of the conference will reflect on the benefits that the past 20 years of enlarged EU have brought to its Member States and look back at the challenges EU has managed to overcome. Recognising that enlargement will be one of the main determinants of Europe's future, this segment will bring together the views of original, "new" and future Member States and aims to outline visions for the common future.

Part 2: Enlarged Europe in 20 years: Challenges and Opportunities
In the coming years, the European Union could expand by eight or more Member States - a similar "big bang" to the enlargement 20 years ago. For countries like Czechia, this was a watershed moment that anchored their clear Euro-Atlantic orientation. Just as over 20 years ago, the Union must prepare for further enlargement. It will have to find answers to a number of questions - how to ensure its capacity to act in a community of more than 30 members, how to further strengthen internal democratic processes, how to preserve the sustainability of key policies and, above all, how to ensure security and prosperity in a rapidly changing geopolitical reality. The expert panel aims to reflect on EU enlargement 20 years ago from the perspective of both the old and the new member states and to use this experience to shape the vision of an enlarged Europe.
