From Moscow to Berlin: Russia’s Military Ambitions and Germany’s Zeitenwende
We cordially invite you to a lecture by Dr Margarete Klein, a leading expert on Russian security affairs, who will examine Russia’s military and nuclear doctrine, recruitment strategies, and the role of the armed forces during the war against Ukraine, while also addressing Germany’s response in the context of the Zeitenwende.
28. 4. 2025 (17:00)
Jazyk: English Institute of International Relations Prague (Nerudova 257/3, Malá Strana, 118 00 Praha 1)
As the war in Ukraine continues and Germany reassesses its strategic direction, a closer look at the evolving military dynamics offers a valuable perspective.
Dr Klein focuses on Russia’s military strategy as well as on broader security policy issues, as reflected in her latest policy paper How Russia is Recruiting for the Long War. In her presentation and subsequent discussion, she will analyse Russia’s evolving military strategies, including its prominent nuclear component, recruitment practices of military personnel, and the military’s role in Russian politics and society during the Russian war against Ukraine.
The second part of her talk will turn to Germany’s response to these developments in the context of the Zeitenwende—a historic shift in German foreign and defence policy. Dr Klein will consider how the new security landscape is reshaping strategic thinking in Berlin and beyond.
Thus, from Moscow to Berlin.
