Language: English Institute of International Relations (Nerudova 257/3, Malá Strana, 118 00 Praha 1)
The Southeast Asian region has witnessed a dynamic geopolitical competition among the world's "great powers" - the US, China, and Russia. These three states played a vital role in regional rivalry in the Cold War era. Today, they are all seeking to extend their influence in this region. What do American, Chinese and Russian spheres of influence look like? And how are regional states navigating the complex landscape of great power politics?
In this lecture, the audience will learn about the great power rivalry in Southeast Asia. Three different domains are examined to capture the complex nature of Sino-American-Russian geopolitical rivalry:
- Great powers' national interests and spheres of influence
- Strategic competition in continental and maritime Southeast Asian space
- Regional states' foreign policy orientation in the context of great power politics
Please register for the event below. We look forward to seeing you there!
