Prof. Dr. Anne Peters, LL.M. (Harvard) is director at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg and professor of International Law at the Universities of Basel and Heidelberg and Freie Universität Berlin. She studied Law, Modern Greek and Spanish in Wurzburg, Freiburg, Lausanne and Cambridge, USA before obtaining a Ph.D. in Freiburg (1994) and qualifying as a professor at the University of Kiel (2000). Anne Peters was president of the European Society of International Law (2010-2012) and member (substitute) of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) in respect of Germany (2011-2015). She is currently member of the Council of International Law of the German Federal Foreign Office (since 2013). Her current research interests relate to public international law, including its history, global animal law, global governance and global constitutionalism, and the status of humans in international law.
