The TTIP is strategically important for the US and the EU; it comes in the period when multilateral process stalled and when there is a need to address the behind the border regulatory issues. After optimistic start of the negotiations in 2013, the US and the EU have, however, entrenched themselves in positions which allow limited opportunity for an agreement. This presentation will use the case of agriculture and food as one of the most contentious issues of the negotiations process to explain the state of the process and opportunities of an agreement from the perspective of politics of negotiating trade.
