Gender in Development and Post-Conflict Peace-Building
The nineties of the last century saw the advent of gender on the agenda of the academic discipline of International Relations. On the practical levels of international politics, prompted by the international women’s movements and the UN Decade of Women (1975-1985), gender relations had been a topic even earlier. Numerous fields of international politics have since been reviewed for their gender practices. This is also the case with development aid and post-conflict peace-building, two policy areas in the focus of this talk. While each of these policy areas has its own characteristic features, overarching gender stereotypes and patriarchal attitudes operate in both of them.
